The grand temple of Jagannath Puri, the abode of Lord Krishna, brother Balarama and sister Subhadra, near the golden beach is full of mysteries, including Lord Krishna’s death!

Puri is one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites in India and well-known for the annual chariot festival, called the Rath Yatra.

Temple Flag that defeats Science and defies Logic

The flag has a unique phenomenon of fluttering in the opposite direction of wind. Yes, that’s true! It completely defies logic and science here with no explanation why!

Flag Hoisting - 1800 year old Ritual

Also it is absolutely breathtaking to see the flags getting changed once during the day. The temple’s main dome is about 40 stories high, which a Pandit climbs the top without any safety harness and changes all the flags there.

It is so believed that if this ritual is ever missed, the temple will have to be closed for 18 years.

Sudarshan or Neel Chakra

Lord Krishna’s main weapon, a Sudarshan Chakra is placed on top of the main dome of the temple. It is 20 feet high and weighs a ton! The unique thing about the chakra is that it is visible from any place or part of Puri. What’s more unique is that it always seems to be facing you, irrespective of which direction you see it from.

No shadow is cast

Such is the mystery of the main structure of the temple that it does not cast its shadow during any part of the day, no matter from where the Sun decides to shine upon it.

Whether this is an engineering marvel or some phenomenon, is best left to your judgment.

Sound of Music

The temple has 4 doors, of which the main one is Singh dwar. It is said that the sound of the waves crashing on the land is no longer audible, the moment you enter through the Singh dwar. But as soon as you take one step outside the Singh Dwar, you can hear the sound of waves again.

Prasadam

The Prasad that is cooked inside the Temple premise never falls short in terms of supply or gets wasted, no matter how many devotees visit the Temple.

Also, the cooking technique has its own uniqueness. 7 jars are placed on top of each other for cooking the prasadam. The prasadam in the top jar gets cooked first, followed by the one below it and so on. Isn’t it astonishing!

Jagannath Temple is so full of mysteries, it only points to some other force that has designed it in such a way!
